Difference between far-right, radical-right, and extreme-right.

right = { mainstream-right ∪ far-right }

far-right = {radical-right ∪ extreme-right }

"We can distinguish between radical and extreme versions of both the far left and far right, where radical movements work for change within the framework of democracy
whereas extremists reject democracy and are willing to use violence or other non-conventional means to achieve their goals."

Many far-right parties have members from both radical and extreme right.

A crowd-sourced list of many “problem Library of Congress Subject Headings” can be interacted with on the Cataloging Lab wiki. Those who want to provide feedback on proposals being considered can follow what new & changed subject headings are under discussion on LC’s “Tentative Monthly Lists.” (Yes, the TML have future dates available to see - since they're tentative, they're still draft versions.)

When you search for web design and development glossaries you find a huge amount of pages covering, say, 10 (!) to 100 terms: google.com/search?q=web+develo

Continuously working on a glossary book and site, I don’t feel like the 3,800+ terms currently covered are even close.

Try the site and I’m sure you still find something that’s missing (please tell me!):

To use or not to use the term "#megafire"? 🔥

After Linley et al. (2022) suggested a standardized definition (> 10,000 ha extent) to reduce ambiguity, a new perspective by Stoof et al. (2023) recommends not using the term at all in science:
onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10

I'm a fan of clear definitions and standardization of #terminology, but at the same time also wondering if we really need a special term for fires of a certain extent?

@wildfirescience @paleofire @ecology #wildfire #wildfires

This has been years in the making, since around 2016 (!), and finally the paper has been published in #IJDH: "Repetitive research: a conceptual space and #terminology of #replication, #reproduction, revision, reanalysis, reinvestigation and reuse in digital humanities". See here: doi.org/10.1007/s42803-023-000 It's part of a collection on #reproducibility and #explainability in #DigitalHumanities: link.springer.com/collections/

What's open and what's not in "open" #AI?
papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf

"We find that the terms ‘open’ and ‘open source’ are used in confusing and diverse ways, often constituting more aspiration or marketing than technical descriptor, and frequently blending concepts from both #OpenSource software and #OpenScience. This complicates an already complex landscape, in which there is currently no agreed on definition of ‘open’ in the context of AI."

The concept of “race” was invented to provide the logic for slavery. It's scientifically unfounded but still firmly holds ideas of biological diff.& hierarchy that have served to justify exploitation/oppression. It's use even by those who abhor #racism tends to reinforce those ideas. #Ethnicity is a social/cultural characteristic while #race is a biological/physical trait
Should/can the term "race" be replaced or abandoned?

Worth keeping in mind when discussing "#AI" systems:

Not all is what it seems. A lot of misleading #terminology gets thrown around, even by people who should know better and "forget" to be careful ...

Leading to needless #hyperbole and misunderstandings about what those systems can (and should) do.

Oh, they're "autonomous" now, "recognize" things and faces, make "intelligent" "decisions"?

So we can dispense with human decisions?

Not so fast.
